PLEASE READ!  We receive a lot of emailed questions that already have answers on this page.

Forfeits: A player who doesn’t request a bye and fails to appear will be charged with a forfeit loss and a $10 fine.  The fine will be increased on players who repeatedly fail to notify in advance.  Remember that a forfeit by you deprives another player of a game.

When we meet: We meet ONLY on Friday nights.  Registration for our events is from 7:00PM to 7:15PM with games starting promptly at 7:30PM.  Some nights the club will be closed due to church activities, especially around religious holidays.

Our Dues: $50/year, $40 for juniors under 19, women and seniors 65 or older.  1/2 of these prices for six  months.  QCC Members receive a discount on tournament entry fees.

Chess Training: We often receive requests for Chess Training.  Our resident trainer, Jay Kleinman, offers private and group lessons.  Use our contact form to make inquiries.

Conduct: At the Queens Chess Club we want all members and visitors to feel comfortable and enjoy the game of chess.  Therefore we have a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior.  If you experience or witness any of the following behavior at a QCC event or on QCC social media, please report it immediately:

• Racism
• Sexism
• Sexual Harassment
• Abuse: Verbal or Physical
• Intolerance of a person’s religion, gender identity or sexual orientation
• Any other actions deemed to be intentionally hurtful, harmful, threatening or inappropriate

We aim to enforce the right for all members to enjoy their chess club in an environment that is safe and without risks to health, violence and aggression.

QCC hosts ‘Family Friendly’ events and may include children.  Therefore we will maintain a zero tolerance towards offensive or obscene language or actions at all QCC events.  Players using excessive use of offensive or obscene language, to the point where it disturbs other players, will be given ONE warning. If behavior persists, the offender will be required to leave the event.

Any violation of the Code of Conduct, or any action that a TD finds to be inappropriate or disruptive, will result in the offending player being removed from the event.  Multiple offenses will result in a termination of the membership, and a life-ban from QCC events.  Severe breaches of the Code of Conduct will result in an immediate termination of membership.

QCC reserves the right to revoke membership of any member, at any time.

In accordance with Rule 20G, Annoying Behavior is prohibited at tournaments.  Specifically, it is forbidden to distract or annoy the opponent in any manner whatsoever.  A director, upon a complaint by the opponent, has discretion to determine whether any particular behavior is in violation of this rule and to impose penalties.  Examples of annoying behaviors include but are not necessarily limited to: clock banging, piece banging, and talking and/or vocalizations.  (The only time you may talk to the opponent is to offer a draw.)  While inexperienced players may receive one warning, experienced players will be subject to the following penalties (permitted under Rule 1C2b):

First violation will result in a 10-minute reduction in the offending player’s time.  (If that reduction would result in forfeit, time will be reduced instead to five minutes remaining on the offender’s clock.)  The second violation within the same game will result in a forfeit.

Note that clock and/or piece banging with five minutes or less on the offending player’s clock will be more likely to be judged by the TD as inadvertent due to the time pressure situation, and possibly immune from these penalties.

Players who are repeatedly found to be annoying opponents face suspension and/or permanent expulsion from the club.

Further note that, as with all claims, the aggrieved player must stop his/her clock and make a claim to a TD.
