Three Way Tie at Summer Open (August 5-September 2)

by on September 2, 2005

After a hiatus of several months without Grand Prix events at Queens, club champion Jay Bonin returned to his home borough.  If memory serves, Jay hasn’t lost a game at Queens since January 2003.  This time he was held to draws by Bill Arluck in Round 3 and Arunas Simonaitis in Round 5, so all three finished at 4-1.  Simonaitis took a bye in Round 3 and Arluck drew with Ed Frumkin in Round 4.  The top three prizes of $200-$100-$60 came out to $120 each.  Antonio Lorenzo was top 1600-1899 with 3½-1½, good for $90, while Aliakbar Asar  and Ken Cruz split the $50 second prize with 3-2 scores.  Richard Ziet was top under 1600 with 3-2 for $90, while the second prize of $50 was split four ways at 2½-2½.  24 entered.
